Welcome to Mentoring

Thank you for inquiring and taking the first steps to becoming a mentor for our youth at Wilson Children’s Home. Mentoring is designed to provide our community’s most vulnerable children with a trusted adult committed to helping him/her take steps to achieve a brighter future. It is impossible to describe the positive impact mentors can make in the lives of children whose life circumstances may lead them to believe no one cares.

The children at Wilson Children’s Home are some of the most vulnerable in our community. Some have been abused or neglected, while others suffer from mental health issues, learning disabilities and/or social isolation. Despite these challenges, we recognize children are incredibly resilient, curious, and trusting. They love new experiences and can benefit from having a supportive adult they can count on in their lives.

Mentors are caring adult men and women who provide guidance, support, and exposure to life experiences to youth. Through consistent visits, support and encouragement, mentors help build a young person’s confidence and trust. Additionally, mentors help to promote personal growth, decision-making, and goal setting.

Mentors must be at least eighteen (18) years old and must successfully complete a screening procedure for consideration. Written references as well as fingerprint, background, motor vehicle checks, and proof of valid automobile insurance are required.

If you are interested, please complete the attached application, and return it to the Wilson Children’s home Superintendent, Thea Griffith. I can be reached at (937) 544-2511 Ext. 141.

Thank you for your support,
